7.3 Flying Wings

Flying Wings is the name given to aircraft which don’t have a fuselage.  The best way to explain this is to show you what one looks like.

This is the Horten Flying Wing design

You will notice it has no fuselage, and no tail.  It is just the wing.

The beauty of this is that there is not a lot there to create drag (or weight).  And isn’t is a sexy little thing?

The main disadvantages of Flying Wings is that the CG position is critical, and great care needs to be taken to get everything balanced just right.

The place to go for more information is the TWITT web site (TWITT stands for The Wing Is The Thing)
